I've always found crop circles interesting. not only for their mystery and speculation about aliens and UFO's and such but also I appreciate the complexity and use of sacred and complicated geometry. I saw this a bit ago but the alien post reminded me of it:

Article

It is - by any calculation - a creation stunning in its ingenuity.

Carved out in a barley field, this 150ft wide pattern is said to be a pictorial representation of the first ten digits of Pi, one of the most fundamental symbols in mathematics.

Wow, that is pretty frickin awesome. I hadn't scrolled down far enough to see the pic of the diagram explaining, and I stared at the crop circle trying to figure out how it was PI, and I eventually solved it, then saw that I didn't even need to.

One minor problem though.
Pi is 3.141592653
Not 3.141592654

Though the 11th digit is a 5, so I guess they were rounding up...?

Either way, very cool.
And what's this? In the small text under the photo it says
"And even ASTROPHYSICISTS admit they find it mindboggling"

Huh? First of all, it's not that mindboggling that someone made a spiral with lengths equal to pi's digits. Clever, yeah, but mindboggling?? And what do astrophysicists have to do with it? They study stars, gravity, orbits and the cosmos. Why would their opinions be particularly relevant to crop-circle design?

Weird.... but like I said, still cool!

as the article points out:
"The tenth digit has even been correctly rounded up.
The little dot near the centre is the decimal point. "

thought you might appreciate this one transfixed...

Ahh... but uh, what article?

Edit: nevermind, it was camouflaged by the blue background.

I'm on it.

Haha, I can't help but add this comment from some guy at the bottom of the article. Stuff goes over people's heads and they assume it's the most complicated thing ever known to man...wow.

"If this wasn't some sort of supra normal event, then there had to be hundreds of people involved in this over a long period of time, and all of them astro - and nuclear physicist PHDs."

:Hurk!:

And even crop-circle enthusiasts were puzzled this whole time by it? I can't believe it. The lengths obviously represented some sort of values, and a run down the list of possibilities would pretty quickly make someone wonder about Pi, I'd imagine. I mean damn, I could have figured this one out. Not to blow my own horn, but jeez, it took a freaking astrophysicist to go "Hmm, maybe Pi?"

Anyway....good stuff.

Transfixed, at least you are keeping the atoms in your brain moving, me on the other hand always have to see how many posts there are before I even read the first post.

Keep figuring things out before you get a chance to cheat at the answer.

If you guys are interested, here's a pretty informative book on the subject of crop circles.
