Why it seems like people are so likely to discard the concept of Solar and Wind energy and narrow in on things like coal and nuclear, which seem to have negative back-lashes environmentally..
whereas solar and wind dont seem to...?
Is it just super expensive to set up or is it just that the profit gain on the harmful ones would be equivilent to that of oil and gas?...

The only downside that I have heard of in regards to wind power is that if the turbines are placed in the migratory patterns of certain birds, then some of them will be killed flying through them. I don't know how much this issue is "real", and how much of it is environmental activists just playing politics.

The story below is from 2005, but I remember hearing about it when I was a college student in 2000.

Jesus..
Well couldnt they manufacture a preventative casing (like on a fan) to prevent bird choppage?

I heard the turbines also create a massive amount of noise polution..

According to Wikipedia, the threat to bird populations is negligible:

in the UK, where there are several hundred turbines, about one bird is killed per turbine per year; 10 million per year are killed by cars alone.[66] In the United States, turbines kill 70,000 birds per year, compared to 57 million killed by cars and 97.5 million killed by collisions with plate glass.
