Because of Geoffery Canada's vision to save children, more than $100,000,000 in private money has been collected to educate a one mile inner-city area dubbed "The Harlem Children's Zone." About 10,000 children, mostly poor and black, live in this area.

The promise Canada makes is that every child who attends this particular school will get continual personal attention and is guaranteed a spot in college.

His aim is to prove that inner-city kids are just as capable as others who are given a better slot in life.

"They get what middle-class and upper middle-class kids get," Canada explains. "They get safety..., structure..., academic enrichment..., cultural activity..., adults who love them...I'm prepared to do anything to keep these kids on the right track."

The only regret he has is being incapable of putting every child in this school. There is a huge demand from parents and only so many teachers and space available. The fairest solution he has for parents and their children is to run a lottery for a slot in the school.

" After my first lottery, " Canada said, "we're gonna have to open more schools. You sit there and watch those parents, it's the saddest thing I've ever seen. It really is."

Yay, good news and Carmania!

I am a little confused about the last few statements in pertaining to the lottery and the parents of the kids... but other than the sadness of having to turn away children for enrollment it is a great step towards better-ness...
