"F" Congress and "F" the American people. These guys are going to give OUR money to whoever the hell they want to, regardless of what they told us to get the money.

You beat me to it again.
This is absolutely unbelievable...
From the article, it is slightly unclear exactly what they intend to do with this money now, it appears to be a stew of different ideas that are completely different from buying up the troubled assets of the banks, WHIC IS WHAT THEY SOLD THE ENTIRE IDEA ON to Congress and the American people.
Whoops! They changed their minds!
To get a little better concept of what is going on here, watch this video of a handful of people discussing it, and how they feel about it.
To me, this is simply more evidence of the engineered nature of this entire event. Screw the Treasury!
So the gov't is now going to in large part OWN these banks, and now has the authority to tell them WHAT TO DO. Hmmm.... so we're seeing a fusion of our government with some of the largest and most powerful corporations on the planet. Nice. You know what that is, by definition?
Fascism.
It's true.

If only it were possible to get everyone to make a stand against bull shit like this and everyone, I am talking EVERYONE didnt pay their federal taxes until the government stops pulling shit like this..

They have no right to the money we are enslaving ourselves over if they are going to utterly disregard EVERYTHING this country stands for. They bypass us, lie to us too much.. but this.. this is just inconceivably appauling.

Assholes.

I think if the whole country stood up and said "No you cant have my money" and didnt pay their federal taxes (but still pay their state)it would really show them that we arent to pushed around.

But the problem is is everyone is afraid of the IRS& the Federal Government the threat of the punishment for NOT complying to their taxes is more than enough to keep most americans in step, even if they fully believe in the cause they stand up for. I think it would be one of the few ways we could potentially stop shit like this from happening.

a good ole fashion strike.

Yes, I agree that our current administration is abhorrently corrupt. However, because of the coming leadership change and the potential for positive changes to our society through the changing of laws and policies, I think people are willing to give lawful change a chance before they put themselves and their family's well-being on the line with "unlawful" and potentially damaging personal consequences. And I hate to sound weak, but as angry as I am about the state of many things, I am not at this point ready to put my wife, child, and coming child in that position.

Rather, in a sense, a small revolution just took place through the Constitutional power of the Vote with a major shift in our leadership and their purported policies. And not just with Obama, but locally as well. Jeff Merckley's unseating of incumbent Gordan Smith was the first time an incumbant Senator has been defeated in Oregon in at least 40 years. I didn't vote for either one of them because I detested both of their campaigns, but the people of Oregon made a clear revolutionary statement: Change Now. So, now We the People must demand that he/they live up to their words.

I'm somewhere in the middle on this. I would love to not pay federal income taxes, but they do serve other purposes than just things like this bailout, so....
But I don't think that the election of a new president, as relatively revolutionary as this one is, will make enough of a difference.
I think we have to change the actual system in order to get different results.
It appears that with our current governmental/congressional set-up, that we're destined to get the same kind of crap out of our leaders year after year, ya know?

WE NEED NEW IDEAS.

Like what if every congressional & senate candidate ran on SPECIFIC ideas which they would push for once elected.
Like, if every candidate had to have 3 or 5 major initiatives that they would put forth and try to enact if elected, then the people would vote for them knowing what kind of actions they would take, AND --- if they fail to pursue the very things they were elected on, they would automatically have to give up their seat at the next election. Is that not reasonable?
That way, the only way anyone could remain in office would be to continually do the bidding of the people they represent.

We could do away with Presidential Executive Orders, so that everything must go through congress and therefore, the people.

We could demand that every televised debate MUST include an Independent candidate, unless none is available, so that Independents can get a real foot in the political door, and lessen the power of the dominating two parties. (And hopefully eventually weed them out of existence)...

We could make Supreme Court justice terms realistic instead of LIFE TERMS, so that they serve a term and then must be replaced every 8 years or so...

We could put the entire federal budget ON-LINE, where every last dollar is documented, tallied, and accounted for in specific terms, so that ANY American can see where THEIR tax dollars are going. This alone would weed corruption out of the system dramatically.

On and on and on we could go, reassessing the structure and functionality of ALL areas of our government, taking new, hard looks at how we're doing things, and be open-minded enough to recraft the system when the system is failing...
Which it is.

If we had REAL transparency and accountability of the machinery of our government, then things like this economic disaster, and the ensuing theft of trillions of our dollars would be a lot harder for anyone to get away with.

We just need to stop acting like we have lead feet and slow brains, and start demanding more of these people!
:x
