I don't know if you've had the UNprivilege of seeing the Esurance commercial where the cartoon band is jamming in the clouds while green grass takes over oil field machinery and a warbly-voiced guy is singing about having "one foot in the grave" and "25 cents in my wallet"...

Anyway, it's that irritating combination of catchy and maddening, and I grew to hate that commercial pretty quickly.

Just enough of course, to check out the band online.

And lo and behold, despite the dorky weirdness of the Esurance song, the band Cloud Cult is actually really freaking amazingly good. In an Indie rock-lite kinda way, they are phenomenal.
If you can come to accept the singer's high-pitched voice, you'll see what I mean. They have a level of passion, creativity, honesty, and emotional power that is entirely rare, almost nonexistent in music.

At first, you'll be skeptical and think I may be crazy, but listen all the way through their last two albums Feel Good Ghosts (tea-partying through tornados), and The Meaning of 8, and if you aren't affected by their magic, you have a strange immunity to being human.

Also, they turned down multiple record deals in order to keep total control over how they release their records, using organic shrinkwrap, soy-based inks, bio-degradable packaging etc... kinda cool.

You can download the albums on their website, or uh....find them with Bittorrent. :)

It is rare I experience a band that seems to truely speak to the part of me that is overwhelmed with love of LIFE. I love their honest Light.

You nailed it. I don't know what specific album you gave me, but I listened to it, and through about the first dozen songs I thought, "they're okay, but I'm not really feeling a connection, here". I almost gave up on them and moved on. Luckily, I made myself stick with it and listen to more. As I was on about track 13 or 14 (out of 22), I remembered a snippet I read on the internet about this guy's two year old son dying suddenly in his sleep. Having a two year old daughter, the lyrics and the music suddenly took new shape and meaning. And now, I believe I've been hooked.

And this was the song that officially hooked me. Knowing the circumstances behind it, few songs have moved me as much as this:

Awesome!!

I'm glad you liked it. Yeah I know there is kind of a 'hill' to get over when you first start listening to them, but the more you listen to the lyrics, and understand the contexts of the songs and how much they're based on real, raw tragedy and having come through it transformed in a positive way into a real appreciation of life.... it's kind of amazing.

I think the disc you have is a compilation from 3+ albums.
It's an UBER-MIX! :o

But yeah I have personally come to really, really like this band. They are definitely unique and subtlely powerful. The dvd documentary just came out, though appears to be nowhere in stores....
But better yet....
MAY 10TH @ The Wonder Ballroom, Portland, OR!
Freakin sweet. 8)

And yes, that song is incredible. It kinda smashed me in the face when I first heard it. But that's just me, I love unique emotional art.

I'd love to see them in concert. The 5/10 date may be a little close to our due date to make it to that show, but hopefully I can see them in the near future.

Thanks for introducing me and for the CD

THEY WERE AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And we were literally inches from the band, Craig was right infront of us, and actually responded to me! And Transfixed got a pick that dropped. We met Connie at the bar and actually talked to her.
It turns out they are having another baby!
The drummer who's name momentarily escapes me actually stood right next to us and rocked out during the opening band, the art rocked, the atmosphere rocked, the band was tight, and it was amazing all around.. the only flaw was having it end...
It was a beautiful show, and i cannot wait for them to come back.
Thank you cloud cult, youre awesome.

That was truly an amazing show.
There's nothing quite like being THREE FEET away from the guy singing.
Wow. I literally could have reached over and unplugged his guitar cord.
I had pretty high expectations and they BLEW THEM AWAY, they were SO tight and SO energetic and powerful. I've seen some good shows, but this will definitely go down as one of the best.
Yeah, we totally ran into Craig's (the singer) wife in the bar downstairs before the show and told her how awesome they were and how we were totally stoked for the show etc... cool!
Then after one of the songs at the end of the show, Alluscion thanked Craig, rather quietly I thought, it was doubtful that he even heard her, but then he smiled and said "you're welcome" to her. Sweet.
Then at the very end, he flung a guitar pick onto the front of the stage right where I was standing and I snatched it up!
Kick ass!
They were very appreciative of the crowd's enthusiasm, and basically everyone had an awesome time. In fact, I just saw one of the artist's posts on his blog, where he shows a photo he took of the crowd (unfortunately not in it), and his caption says "The Portland crowd was really awesome! I think this is one city I could see myself living in. It just has a positive vibe to it." :D http://theartofscottwest.blogspot.com/
I would see them again in an instant.
You really should have gone, Prasutagus!!!

Their music is incredible.
