Post subject:  It's All Over (Finally)

Well, the rat race is over, and in a fairly big blowout America has clearly chosen it's next President. There will be no "hanging chads" or "Ohio voter fraud" controversies splashed across the TV screens for weeks. The majority of the American people have left no doubt about the direction that they want the country to take. I just truly HOPE that this man is not a power-hungry, self-preserving hypocrite, but a good man who sees the opportunity that he has in front of him to make America and the world a better place. The American people have also given him a legislative branch heavily in his corner, and he needs to be wise and useful with that unusual opportunity. Clinton had a similar chance in 1992, but he did not have the strength of character (IMO) to take advantage of it, and Americans gave Congress back to the Conservatives in 1994, which was probably a good thing at the time.

Anyway, I can't help but allow myself just the most miniscule glimmer of Hope concerning this man and our future. I realize that it will most likely be dashed within his first few months of office when "politics as usual" take over, but I am allowing it just the same.

GAH - you beat me to it! :)
I as well feel fairly optimistic about all of this. And though it is tempting (or natural) to assume that things will devolve into 'politics as usual' fairly soon... for some reason I feel that if there was ever a likely time for us to shift away from them, it is right now, and Obama appears to have every intention of doing things differently.
He certainly has a different attitude, personality and intellect than any president in recent history, so it seems that a positive difference is likely to manifest in some ways at least.
I watched with much anticipation last night as the electoral numbers came in, and Obama stunned McCain in a number of states like Ohio, Indiana, Virginia, and Florida, essentially slamming the door on any chance for McCain to win. Wow...
The numbers aren't apparently in yet for North Carolina and a few other states, but this is pretty much how it shaped up in the end... the nation more evenly red/blue than I've ever seen in my life

Wow again...
And here's Obama's speech in front of over 100,000 people in Chicago after winning the presidency.

It's tough, wanting to get my hopes up for a new era in America, yet being afraid of getting them crushed by Obama stabbing us all in the back, but being fully aware of that possibility... my hopes are pretty high right now. And I'm just SO EXTREMELY glad that McCain will never see the presidency....phew....

R.I.P.
SARAH PALIN - POSTMORTEM

In the wrecked aftermath of the McCain campaign, people searching for the reasons why it all came crashing down are beginning to finally wake up from their faux-patriotic daze and understand what a god-awfully horrible choice Sarah Palin was for V.P.
They couldn't see it at the time, lost in the magic of her 'You betcha' persona....
But now that the spell has worn off, it is becoming clear, EVEN TO FOX NEWS CHANNEL that this woman was an intellectual train-wreck from beginning to end.
Just take a look.

The way I see it, this was all McCain and his campaign staff's fault. She clearly is not among the intellectual elite, nor did she have any particular reason prior her VP selection to be anywhere near in-depthly informed of National politics. She was Governor of frickin' ALASKA, for crying out loud. I think our own Kulongoski would be just as much overwhelmed, and is much more of an idiot, than Palin, and he has half of the charisma.

She's just a regular lady who should NEVER have been in that situation. Now, her "normal" life will probably never be the same. She's clearly a very motivated, outgoing, charismatic person who has otherwise done well for herself.

Per Wikipedia, she was a captain on her high school basketball team, then she bounced around some State colleges before finally earning her communications degree (and doing well in beauty pageants along the way to earn some extra money), was a sports broadcaster, and is now Governor of Alaska. That's actually pretty impressive. But, she's only been Governor for a couple years. The vast majority of her political experience is as council member and Mayor of Wasilla, AK...a town smaller than the tiny village that I grew up in.

Basically, my point is that the media continuing to pummel this average woman with a Communication degree from the University of Idaho is just ridiculous. My only rip on her is that she didn't have the sense to TURN MCCAIN DOWN. Ultimately, McCain and his advisors are the ones who should be ridiculed to no end. WHAT THE HECK WERE THEY THINKING :?:

Yeah you're totally right. If I had met her before the elction, as Governor of Alaska, and learned of her journey to thast position, I would have been impressed. It is definitely not the worst thing a person can become. My night-terrors came from the idea that she would suddenly leapfrog thousands and thousands and thousands of valuable, much more intelligent and qualified people, right into the 2nd most powerful person on the planet.

NO WAY. I absolutely could not accept that.

But man, I haven't even thought of Palin for quite a while now. Were you just feeling like going over some old posts?

Not that you shouldn't, let's get your opinion on ALL these old, dead posts!!! :o

Just messin with ya.

HA HA HA HA!!!!
You just confused the heck out of me, until I realized what happened. Part of the problem is the way this forum works. As soon as I reply to one post, all of the "New Post Alerts" go off, so I have to scan the dates on the right side to find the other new posts. Well, I guess that I was scanning too fast, and thought that 'Nov. 6' was 'Mar. 6', went into the thread and just scrolled down to the last post assuming you just posted it. I replied and moved on realizing nothing. That's two  in one day
I'm so ashamed.

Heheheh I had a feeling it was something like that.
But what's up with the new post alerts disappearing after one post?!?

That is completely lame! For me, they stay orange until I check them out, no matter what. Man that sucks. I didn't know you were having to scan the flippin dates and such.

Stupid unstable forum software!

Yeah, whenever I first enter the forum all the "new posts" (posts since I last left) are lit up in orange. However, as soon as I go in to look at one, even if I don't reply, all of the orange lights are off. So I have to scan the dates to look for the new posts. It's kind of a pain, but not that big of a deal. I have probably missed a few posts because of it (and unknowingly replied to an old post :) ).
