The world's smallest radio frequency identification tags have been unveiled by Japanese electronics firm Hitachi.
The minute devices measure just 0.05mm by 0.05mm (0.002x0.002in) and to the naked eye look like spots of powder.

those are neato. i got one for olive, but i was reading this book that talked about the efficiency of walmart (say what you will about thei inhuman practice) and how they use rfid to track their shipping and stocking stuff in their distribution centers... interesting stuff.
the book was "the world is flat" by the way

I understand the reasoning for needing system to keep track of inventory for stores and the like,
As for human and animal, ive recently done some reserch into the longterm effects of rfid chips in animals.. its kinda weird cause places that specialized in medical grade rfids were saying that they arent dangerous or pose any chances of canger but then you read the studies they have on their site and despite a large amount of cases of canger and foregin body caused tumors they were claiming that it wouldnt happen in humans or cats and dogs even though the tests included cats and dogs.. franly i am personally uncomfortable (on many levels) about live creature implantaion, as well as ID's and various other forms of identification- while i see the benefits .. I am at unease.
